Capacity Building: Skills Acquisition & Training

About the project

Brass LNG's External Relations Department has been vigorously pursuing our capacity building programme, which is a very important part of our corporate social responsibility policy.

The skills we currently need are in the areas of

  • Electrical Installations and Maintenance
  • Carpentry and Joinery
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting
  • Block laying and Concreting
  • Welding and Fabrication

We're focussing our initial training efforts on these skills. People with these skills will be needed soon to help clear the construction site and build our LNG plant.

Planning

The need to provide specialised skills training for Brass Island's young people led to the development of a Youth Skills Acquisition programme.

Brass LNG conducted a skills assessment in three communities. Over three thousand enthusiastic people were interviewed, and the top seventy-five were selected to participate in the programme.

Brass LNG is solely responsible for skills training at The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) at Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria.

Project status

The first class of trainees began their studies at PTI on the 18th February, 2006.

The second group is now six months into their training.

The final group of trainees began their courses on the 7th January, 2007.

Results

All 23 trainees from the first class were awarded their various certificates on 24th November, 2006.
