We will be a long-term resident of Brass Island and constantly strive to understand our impact on the society, economy and environment there.
Local communities
Our Sustainable Development Plan is based on an integrated approach to supporting long-term, innovative and productive developments that promote social inclusion and whole-community development.
To do this right, we must become a partner to, and part of, Brass Island's communities.
For example, each community is founded on a hierarchy of social power which must also be understood and engaged respectfully. These include Paramount Rulers, Chiefs, Elders, Women's Group and Youths.
Our Sustainable Development Plan is structured to promote partnerships amongst all community stakeholders and support the economic empowerment of thriving local communities while respecting and encouraging local culture.
Respect for the environment
The Niger Delta is home to some of the world's richest ecosystems including sprawling mangrove forests, lagoons and estuaries. The vegetation found across the Delta supports a wide biodiversity, and the people who live on the coastline depend on these ecosystems.
Ineffective planning or mismanagement of the coastal zone could cause the fragile ecology and the people who rely on it to come under threat.
That's why we've conducted a formal environmental impact assessment (EIA) and created an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to fully understand the effect of our projects, and created a comprehensive mitigation plan to demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the natural dynamism of Brass Island's coastal zones.
